ALRiO E-bulletin #6 - January, 2008
Welcome to the sixth issue of the Adult Literacy Research in Ontario (ALRiO) E-bulletin.
In this issue we are highlighting organizations that are actively engaged in supporting research in Adult Education and Adult Literacy.
CCL (Canadian Council on Learning)
www.ccl-cca.ca/CCL/Home/index.htm?Language=EN
The CCL is a not-for-profit, independent organization funded by Human Resources and Social Development Canada, which focuses on the research and advocacy of lifelong learning in Canada. The CCL is involved in many activities that deal with learning: working with provincial governments and NGO’s, performing and funding research based in learning-related subjects, facilitating informational exchanges established in learning such as conferences and roundtables, and has developed the Composite Learning Index to measure Canada’s lifelong learning accomplishments. Finally, the CCL operates five knowledge centers across Canada to support and sustain their knowledge work, in such areas as Adult Learning and Work and Learning.
AERC (Adult Education Research Conference)
http://www.adulterc.org/
The AERC is an annual conference for adult education professionals and researchers. Central to this conference is the focus on collaboration and professionalism among those in the field. Adult educators from around the world are invited to share their work, research, and experiences by participating in this collegial environment. Next year’s conference is scheduled to take place June 5 – 7, 2008 at the University of Missouri, in St. Louis. All members of the AERC are welcome to attend. Interested in the content but unable to attend? Check to AERC website for past proceedings digitally from 1993 - 2007.
CEA (Canadian Education Association)
http://www.cea-ace.ca/
The CEA promotes the values of strong education and learning systems in our country, and actively works with various levels of government and organizations in support of these goals. On a foundation of theory and research, the CEA works to encourage individuals and organizations alike to act in the promotion and advocacy of education and learning. Focusing on literacy and lifelong education, the CEA is committed to the progression of sustainable education in the lives of Canadians. The CEA also produces many publications on these subjects; see their website for more information on publications, events, conferences, and current research.
